CIFA Summer Program 2014

Summer Session: Private Lessons (June 23 – August 30)

Schedules may differ for group lessons and ensembles.

10 lesson Monday – Thursday and Saturday
9 Friday lessons due to the Fourth of July holiday

New family registration - $15.00 for summer session

Modified Summer Schedule Available Allowance is made for students participating in the summer program to modify the number of lessons they are taking due to pre-planned absences such as vacation time or camp. Requests for modification of summer lessons should be made in advance in writing to the instructor and the CIFA office. Modification forms are available in the CIFA office.


Abrakadoodle® Art
Toddler Art Classes

Twoosy Doodlers
This special parent/child class is often the first education program for our “Twoosys.” Children learn about color, texture and more while experimenting with new and innovative materials. Parents/caregivers learn what they can do to help nurture creativity.

AGES: children 20-36 months, with parent or caregiver

WHEN: Tuesdays, 9:30 to 10:15 am, July 8 – August 25

COST: $125 (includes materials fee)

INSTRUCTOR: Sue Walia

Mini Doodlers
Mini Doodlers gleefully create their own masterpieces using a wide range of high quality art materials. Children develop important school readiness skills such as fine motor skills, ability to listen and follow directions, cognitive skills, language and more in an enchanting environment that develops individual creativity, through the use of materials including watercolors, tempera paints, oil pastels, creative tools and more.

AGES: 3-6

WHEN: Tuesdays, 11:00 to 11:45 am, July 8 – August 25

COST: $125 (includes materials fee)

INSTRUCTOR: Sue Walia

Classical Guitar Ensemble
The Classical Guitar Ensemble is designed for the player who is interested in advancing his/her technique and musicianship, and preparing more challenging repertoire, including works from all style periods.

WHEN: Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:00pm-8:00 pm, June 24 to August 14

COST: $420 ($30 per class)

INSTRUCTOR: Scott Schwertfeger

PREREQUSITE: Students must have taken classical guitar lessons previously.

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Standard Nylon String Acoustic/Classical Guitar


Dance

Joyful Motion Camps
Joyful Motion is a fun and engaging introduction to ballet technique and creative dance. Children will work on mastering developmental movement skills, as well as, experience the joy of using their imagination to fuel their dancing. In addition to dance, these week-long camps will include developing expression through storytelling and art.

AGES: boys and girls 3-5

WHEN: July 7 – 11, 10:00 am to 11:30 am

August 18 – 22, 10:00 am to 11:30 am

INSTRUCTOR: Jeannine Lacquement

COST: $100.00 ($20 per class)

CLASS ATTIRE:
Girlstraditional black or solid color leotards, footless pink tights, thin white ankle socks; pink ballet slippers, hair secured back

Dance Project - DC
This project combines intensive training with master dance teachers, inspirational discipleship, and humble service.

Schedule

· Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 3pm to 9pm at Columbia Baptist Church (Columbia Institute of
Fine Arts) Master Dance Classes with professional dance instructors from the metro area

· Thursday, Friday, Saturday rehearsal for Saturday evening dance ministry performance and
outreach in Washington, DC

· Thursday, Friday sleepover at Christ Our Shepherd Church, 801 North Carolina Avenue, SE,
Washington, DC

· Thursday – day of service

· Friday – dance ministry throughout the city

· Saturday – dance ministry performance open to the public at Christ Our Shepherd Church at 7pm

AGES: Jr/Sr. High School Girls & Boys

COST: $125 for Master Classes and week’s activities, including transportation while in DC and some meals. Dancers will need to bring an additional $50 to purchase their own lunches and dinners Thursday and Friday, and Saturday lunch.

Musikgarten

June 4/5 – July 9/10 | 6 sessions

Cycle of Seasons (ages 2 ½ to 4 ½)
Each curriculum, including summer, celebrates the child’s love of nature. Class activities build on the child’s growing independence and developing competencies. Imaginative elements are added through creative dance and storytelling.

Music Makers I, II (ages 4 – 7)
Using a thematic approach, this 2-3 year sequential program includes singing, creative and structured movement, playing instruments and ensemble work, ear training and guided listening, as well as an introduction to music literacy which builds symbolic thinking, concentration, memory and self-expression.

Please note that a parent may enroll a child at any time during the session (fees will be prorated) unless the particular class is full. CIFA does reserve the right to combine classes.
